GlaxoSmithKline Settles Class Action Lawsuits For Dangerous Side Effects

On May 7th, 2021, an injury victim who attempted to file a Class Action Lawsuit against CVS Pharmacy/pharmacy was denied approval for her claims. The court denied the Class Action Lawsuit at the conclusion of the 3-day trial. The court cited both parties’ expert witnesses and failed to address whether or not CVS pharmacists are professionals who should be protected under the workers compensation law. Although she was not awarded damages by the court, Ms. Eden believes that her case was “entered on a shoddy basis” and that she suffered a substantial loss. Her attorney is currently working on a potential class-action lawsuit.

CVS declined to comment on the matter citing the fact that this is a litigation matter. However, they released a statement saying “While we believe that compensation is merited, we do not discuss possible litigation unless it has been brought up before and we believe the facts will justify our actions. Any future talks of settlements should occur through your attorney.”

CVS claims that Paxil is safe for use by individuals with mild depression but that using Paxil (the active ingredient in the class action lawsuit) alone could increase the possibility of an individual developing suicidal thoughts, agitation, aggressiveness, restlessness, irritability, panic attacks, confusion, dizziness, impulsivity, and/or difficulty sleeping.

CVS states that they strongly believe that paroxetine (the primary active ingredient in Paxil) is “implicated in many cases of depression and anxiety in patients with underlying psychiatric disorders”. Furthermore, CVS states that studies have shown that children who were prescribed Paxil when they suffered from ODD exhibited lower rates of antidepressant use three years later. Further, CVS claims that studies have also shown that individuals prescribed Paxil or paroxetine as adults developed “significantly” higher suicide rates than those who were not.

As stated earlier, CVS is a major contractor for the drug and is one of the manufacturers of Paxil.

A Paxil Class Action Lawsuit is likely to surface as a result of ongoing legal issues between CVS and its former distributor, Jansport. Jansport was the primary distributing force within the company. Jansport is currently being sued by the state of Pennsylvania, who is seeking compensation for the deaths of two men who died from taking paroxetine. This information should be made available to all patients and their families who may be suffering from the serious side effects of paroxetine, which CVS is marketing as “paroxetine”.

In a related situation, another major company which supplies paroxetine to hospitals in the UK, GlaxoSmithKline, is currently facing a lawsuit filed by a group of mothers who are asking the court to release information regarding the dangers of using paroxetine in combination with their own babies with special needs.

One of the problems with paroxetine and children with developmental disorders is that they experience abnormal changes in heart rates and blood pressure, which lead to possible shortness of breath and an increased risk of sudden death. Another issue is that these drugs often fail to mention certain dangerous side effects, such as severe headaches, vomiting, changes in vision and a rise in blood pressure, which can lead to a heart attack or stroke.

Also problematic is that many parents and patients have reported that despite their continued use, the majority of children with developmental disabilities do not improve. One particular concern is that children could become addicted to the drugs, with tragic results. This is another reason why it is imperative that parents and patients take advantage of a proper Paxil Class Action lawsuit, so that damages can be awarded for past and future losses.

The risks involved in using this medication while pregnant are real and dangerous, but it is important to remember that these are all examples of side effects. Paroxetine is one of many medications, which is routinely given to people who are diagnosed with serious illnesses and conditions.

It is always advisable to seek the advice of a qualified medical professional prior to taking any medication which has a list of potential side effects and/or risks, or which is under a recall. Unfortunately, this does not appear to be the case with Paxil, as there is no indication that any patients have developed any addiction or other negative side effects. In light of all this legal information, it is clear that paroxetine lawsuits against GlaxoSmithKline are frivolous and should not exist.
