I took lithium for Bipolar disorder. I’m allergic to it due to it affecting my kidney.
I was prescribed lithium 30 years ago after 1 manic episode. I eventually developed a thyroid disorder and adrenal gland dysfunction. It gave me brain fog, difficulty concentrating, and caused nausea, confusion, extreme thirst, mania and depression. I am no longer taking it but wondering if there is a class action settlement where I can submit a claim.
I’ve been prescribed lithium since 2004. I had one episode of lithium toxicity requiring hospitalized for 3 days. As with others on this thread I have stage 3 CKD. I also have developed a severe tremor requiring me to eat with a spoon and straw. I would also be interested if someone knew of a class action suit for lithium. I was prescribed up to 1800mg. I contacted an attorney and he said statue of limitations expired.

Lithium caused me to be diagnosed with Parkinson’s, loss of leg use properly, I had to use a rolater, loss of ability to get to bathroom ,I was not able to take one step up or down, confusion. After I was admitted to hospital I was told I may need to go on dialysis.luckily I did not have to. I have been on lithium for about 30 years before I keep falling, stomach pain, hair loss, use of walking without a medical device In December I was on the floor with no knowledge to use my phone. My sons who live far away kept calling me every 5 minutes.I don’t remember their calls . I was able to call out but had no idea how to make a call. I was told by them to go to the hospital . Instead I tried to find T Mobil but had where they were . I went over culverts and left before the ambulance came. I don’t remember all that night. I eventually ended up at the hospital and was diagnosed with lithium toxicity. I was with my Doctor for over 25 years but about 5 years ago he assigned to a PA I was on phone calls only . No blood tests were done on me for over 9 months.I was hospitalized for days. After getting off the lithium I now can walk, I have bowel control, I have some memory problems. I see a new psychiatrist and I getting better, I have noParkinson at all.
My wife took was prescribed lithium 35 years ago. She took it for about 10 years. Her kidney function slowly declined but she never had any adverse effects. Her doctors were amazed until three months ago. She was weak, could hardly walk and couldn’t do the easiest of daily activities. She went to her doctor and her blood levels were way off balance. She was rushed to the hospital and is now on dialysis. At a time when I was about to retire and we were going to travel, our lives are dictated by her treatments. Three week days out of seven is filled with her treatments and the after effects. The others are spent close to our home as she can’t travel very far away from her treatment center.
She has also had half of her thyroid removed and has diabetes.
As she took lithium so long ago, the doctor who prescribed it retired many years ago and the kidney failure took a long time to get to this point, is my wife entitled to any compensation?
My dad is currently taking lithium and had 2 hospital visits due to the lithiumtoxity we are currently trying to get him off the medication but they will not do so his first lithiumtoxity almost killed him he is currently being treated at the hospital now for his second one. How can I get him off of this medication they are stating he is at his lowest level 150 twice a day.
